ep. 113: Turn UP The Heat!

There’s a Christmas party at church for the youth group tonight. So last night together, my son and I made some white chocolate-covered pretzels with sprinkles. After we let them dry, I put the pot in the sink with the remnant of the hardened white chocolate we melted the chocolate in….saying to myself, it just needs “time to soak”. Time to soak?? It needs extra time to just sit in the soaping water and the suds to allow it to lift the remnant of the white chocolate off the pan. Who am I fooling?? Let’s be honest, I pulled the “time to soak” excuse out because I had been gone all day and I didn’t want to clean the pan!!!

I wonder if you’ve ever said to yourself…I’m just gonna let that dream “soak”… I'm gonna need some extra time to allow the the dream to lift off the ground.

So back to my story, you may have guessed it…this morning I woke up and the pot with the remnant of chocolate HAD NOT CHANGED. It was as hard and as dried on as last night when I turned on that faucet to fill up the pot. The soaking didn’t do a thing!

That was when I learned that I needed to add HEAT! In fact, in my research, this morning on seriouseats.com it says, “Don’t scrub it, boil.”

Not until I put HOT WATER in the pot did it lift the chocolate out of it. And, the spoons as well.

In the same way, with your dream or your business, that soaking isn’t doing you any favors, friend. I would bet you know what the next step to carry out your dream is. But, “soaking it” is giving you some time to procrastinate. And, I GET IT!! I was stirring spaghetti listening to a podcast in 2018 and God told me I had a business inside of me. AND, YET it took TWO years, in 2020 for me to take action on it. I was “soaking”. WAY TOO MUCH. Did I tell you I started paying for group business coaching, too???? But soaked it all in. Not until I turned the heat on (when God gently put it in my heart to post a FB post in the business group I was paying for) did I actually begin to make money. When I finally began my business - I KNEW I had been called to start and follow through with it.

(Here’s some research I mentioned in the show: On getprospect.com cold leads need your service but have no idea about your brand; hot leads are motivated and time-sensitive. (source)

Definitions of turn up the heat.

verb. apply great or increased pressure. synonyms: turn up the pressure. (source)

OR

Raising the heat means doing something big or small to compel people to act (source)

And you can call it other things, too! Raise the stakes…Step up your game…Give it your all…

No matter WHAT you call it, It’s time to turn up the heat on:

  • your creative expression

  • your innovation

  • amplifying your intensity

  • increased enthusiasm

  • achieve specific goals or targets

  • increasing sales

  • face challenges head-on

  • more effort or action

‘Cause if it doesn’t scare you it’s not big enough

Listen…I’m gonna rustle some feathers with this next statement. Don’t come at me, girl. But I think a lot of us are in the I need rest and not overwork when we are not even working AT ALL!!! This is NOT everyone, BUT it certainly was me.

Yes, Sabbath. Yes, get a good night’s sleep, but some of y’all are resting during the day and calling it good when you ain’t doing the work.

I’m saying this because I love you and I want you to experience FREEDOM and GET FIRED UP WITH WHAT GOD HAS CALLED YOU TO!!!!!!!

Did God call you to it???? Then, TURN UP THE HEAT!!!!

Whatever IT is:

-enthusiasm?

-writing your book?

-hiring a business coach?

-professional development?

-start a podcast?

-mindset work?

-or is it just setting a list of goals and tasks and GETTING TO WORK?

My pastor growing up used to say there were people who sat and soaked it all in and soured.

MAY IT NOT BE that we sat and soaked it all in and TURNED SOUR in the process.
