ep. 105: Are You a Pace Setter?

When you have a goal and you tell someone about it and you check it off your list, you have a higher chance of accomplishing that goal.  In fact, Google tells us we are 65 percent more likely to meet a goal after verbalizing it to someone else! Today’s episode is all about how faulty beliefs can hold us back from reaching our full potential.

Today was day 10 of walking every day for exercise. Yesterday, my dad suggested I take Addy the 11-year-old Golden retriever with me and I said, “Uh, no she slows me down” (PS She gets exercise in the backyard when we throw her ball, and when she puppy zooms) so I wasn’t depriving her of exercise…shes 77 so she’s okay, ok?)

But, today I decided to invite her to come along. As I asked, her body language wholeheartedly agreed, so off we went!  I could hardly tap my Outdoor Walk icon on my watch to get started and she was pulling on the leash ready to go!  4 minutes into the walk I realized two things.

  1. I realized the pace she set was going to decrease the time of my average mile (hello pace setter) AND

  2. I was going to have to admit my faulty belief when I said she would “slow me down”.

I know why I had that faulty belief. And, it had nothing to do with Addy the Golden. It was the assumption that her stopping to “poop and pee” while on our walk was going to slow down my pace.

However, because of her pace, my pace increased. I created a new standard for myself. My pace per mile increased.  It took only 19 minutes to walk one mile instead of 22.

As business owners, we can get locked into “our pace” What we think is possible…

And we live right up to it.

But I say we flip “the pace” on its head.  I say we create a new pace. Using our podcast to get our God-given mission across to the people who need you in the marketplace to the Glory of God. It’s kingdom work and don’t you ever let anyone tell you it’s not.

Matthew 5 tells us that WE are the Light of the World. But, it doesn’t have to do with anything that we have done, it is all because Jesus is the Light of the World. If you are a believer in Jesus, His Spirit is in you and allows you to be the Light of the World.

Have you heard the difference between a Business owner who is a Christian and a Christian business owner? Either way, we know that God’s Spirit is in us. Shine the Light so that others may see your good works and glorify God in heaven. Shine the light so clients can see how you manage business, so they can See you in the marketplace. So they can see you SHINING THE LIGHT. So that they will glorify God in heaven. It’s not about us, all glory goes to God!

It’s time, friend. It’s time…
