How to Make Your Podcast Searchable: #1 Podcast Audit with Wren Robbins

OK, so this episode is gonna be a bit different! A little while ago I asked for some volunteers to have me do an audit on their podcast, and this is actually the first in a series of four episodes where I’ll be sharing them with you.

What exactly IS a podcast audit?

We hone in one specific aspect of their podcast, and I offer feedback and make some strategy suggestions for them. Short and sweet and super useful!

Welcome to Rachel and her podcast Good Day for a Vacay!

(Our interview has been edited for space and clarity.)

WR - So, Rachel, is your podcast is a passion project, hobby, or a business?

RK - It’s kind of a combination of all three. I love talking about health and wellness, and vacation advice, I’m really interested in the enneagram, and also what the Lord’s been showing me and has put on my heart to share with others.

WR - What do you want your listeners to leave with?

RK -  I want them to leave with something practical and what’s working for me.

WR - OK, so let me start with the things I see that you’re doing really well.

1 - I love that it’s really easy for me to find your website and people can find you when they’re listening to your podcast.

2 - It’s so important that words are super clear. Because when listeners are looking for something, the title is the first thing they see. Now, your title “Good Day for a Vacay” tells me that your podcast is all about vacations - which is a wonderful thing! But if you want to be branching into some of the other areas you mentioned, you might want to add a subtitle.

So, to enable people to find you in searches, we have to think “keywords” or SEO (search engine optimization).

Pro-tip: Use Pinterest as a search engine, too! If you can find some pins with your keywords or phrases there, then there are definitely people looking for your content!

Keeping in mind your subject areas -  enneagrams, healthy and wellness, spiritual walk, and vacation advice -  the general theme of “wellness” or “wholeness” seems to encapsulate them all.

Pro-tip: Keywords can be placed in your description and on your podcast graphic. Sometimes when people are searching, your podcast graphic will come up, and if they see the keywords there, it may pique their interest!

Rachel and I spent a few minutes brainstorming words and phrases that could crystalize all she wants to include in her podcast. (If you’re looking to do the same, let me suggest trying wordhippo.com, an online thesaurus.)

We settled on “Wellness for the busy mom” or “Wholeness for the busy mom” and I suggested adding it to her graphic as well as her podcast description.

Did you know that Spotify will bring you to a specific episode when you search by keyword?

The same things we talked about for her general podcast description apply to each episode, too, so we then looked at one or two other episodes as well.

And that, as they say, is a wrap!

Thank you for joining me today - did you find this episode interesting? I’d love to hear what resonated with you. Head on over to Instagram @wrenrobbinscoach and tell me. Can’t wait to meet you!

And remember: “life’s too short to wing it!”
