ep 85: A NEW Perspective on Your Word of the Year

We are almost halfway through the year…how ya’ doing with your goals for the first half of the year?  Are you meeting some of them?  None of them?  We are almost at the halfway point for 2023.  If you haven’t met some of your business goals, what is your plan from here into Quarters 3 and 4?

I don’t usually set a long list of goals for my business. I set a revenue goal and I have one Big Launch I want to accomplish each year.  I LOVE setting big quarter goals, however!  I like the short time limit I give myself.  But, as it is almost the midway point in our year, I wanted to do a flashback of the word of the year God gave us this year.

Process: I pray and ask God about what my word of the year should be.  I pay attention to the word that keeps popping up and for 2023 God gave me the word: Diligent.  And, not until this week did I really understand what that word meant to me in my business.

You see, I really like to work in my business.  I like to think, plan, record, spend time reading business books,  listen to all the resources and podcasts available…but I also scroll on social media a lot too.  I waste a lot of time.  I thought that my word of the year would be for me to be more diligent in doing the work in my business…and It has been a lot of that.  Seeing the word up on the wall reminds me to work hard.

But, there has been a deeper meaning in my word of the year and I thought you may have a more profound meaning in yours as well!  This week is the first day of working during the Summer while my son is out of school! I’ve set up a workable and doable schedule that benefits my business and prioritizes the relationship with my son.

I had a couple of opportunities to do some great things this Summer, and I have said no to a few of them.  Not that I didn’t want to do them or want to jump right in….I want to be diligent in my boundaries.  In my yeses and my nos.

Diligence means steady, earnest, and energetic effort: devoted and meticulous work and application to accomplish an undertaking

Being diligent in the boundaries between work and home life is not ever going to be second-guessed upon.  Not in the future.

Well, my work and the effort I need to put forth is raising my son.: doing morning basket with him…sharing the Word with him to build character qualities and grow in God’s word. And, actually enjoying the Summer.  Not overcommitting to things that take a lot of prework.  Will I continue the podcast this Summer,? You betcha!  But, that and serving my clients (during his camp times) is going to be it for me!

Your priorities must reflect your daily activities this Summer or they aren’t really priorities at all.

I’m here to say I’m with you and I want to encourage you to appreciate that God gave your word of the year to you..it’s for a reason. And it may not be for the reason you thought. 🙂

Remember I’m here to help you cause life’s too short to just wing it!
